Edrea Martin entering Librarianship

Hello!
My name is Edrea Martin, I am based in Concord, North Carolina and I am pursuing a Masters in Library & Information Science at UNCG. I previously studied Textile Design at the Rhode Island School of Design 2022, where I learned about fiber, fabrication, and color. In addition to learning how to create fabric and design for concept,  I studied the history surrounding textiles, where these practices come from and where they are going. My peers and I were exposed to archival and conservation spaces belonging to the RISD Museum and Fleet Library in Providence, Rhode Island.  This is what inspired my decision to take this path, I’d like to merge my knowledge of fabric/textile practices and what I am learning now in Library School.

Sharing my journey in blog format. I hope you enjoy!

Heads up: I will also continue to add to/update this digital profile

My interests so far in my studies are...Research, for both reference, and for building metadata accuratelyArchive practices and archival organizationHow a library or information organization can tailor itself to suit a community
These are all things that I was exposed to in a different context while studying art, and design for interiors. Learning new aspects of research, reference, archive, and community building, contributes to my devotion to the greater scope of things. Things being “the desire to give back and become an activist,” whether its by contributing to archives to preserve and organize knowledge for future generations, aiming to build collections that represent all walks of life, or conducting research in order to serve the needs of a community.

One day I would like to work in museum archives or special collections, combining art and design with LIS. Becoming a leader in the art realm and in the library.

This is what I like to do outside of getting a MLIS

I love drawing, weaving and knitting with a good show playing in the background.
Drawing, weaving, and knitting are all things that I would like to incorporate into my career as a librarian, as well as just promote it anywhere I go.
Reading is also an essential part of my routine.
I enjoy supporting local buisnesses.
I also have a zine series called Frog Analog, I leave these little zines in the little free libraries whenever I see them.
My favorite colors are red and blue

So basically... I love living intentionally, learning forever, and making a difference.
